What Brand of Tires Does Tesla Use?

New Teslas come equipped with tires made by several different manufacturers, including Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, and Hankook. These tires vary depending on the model and trim level. The company occasionally makes changes regarding which tire manufacturer it uses. For example, in 2022, the company switched the 18" stock tires on the Model 3 from the Michelin Primacy MXM4 to the Hankook Kinergy GT.

Do Teslas Require Special Tires?
Original equipment Tesla tires have one major distinguishable feature from regular electric vehicle tires: a special layer of acoustic foam. This addition helps drastically reduce tire noise inside the cabin. As electric-powered Teslas do not use a combustion engine, the tires are the main source of cabin noise. Without noise reduction technology, hearing tires on the road has proved to be a common complaint among Tesla owners. Traditional gas-powered vehicles do not usually have this issue as the engine noise blocks out the sound generated by tires.
However, using original Tesla tires with acoustic foam is not necessary to operate the vehicle. If hearing tire noise does not bother you, choosing an aftermarket replacement without the foam can save you a little bit of money. Any tire that fits your Tesla wheels will work, as long as they meet or exceed the load and speed rating specified for your model.
Electric vehicles have more torque and weight than gas-powered vehicles. Regular tires on an electric vehicle can wear out much more quickly as a result. Take a look at Tire Rack's extensive selection of electric vehicle tires to find plenty of options that are compatible with your Tesla. When searching for tires by vehicle, we only show appropriate tires in our results.
How Much Do Tires Cost on a Tesla?
The cost of Tesla tires varies depending on the specific model and trim level. Expect to pay more for original equipment Tesla tires than you would for other compatible aftermarket tires. This increased price is mostly due to the inclusion of acoustic foam, which can make OEM Tesla tires around twice as expensive as the cheapest electric vehicle tire replacement.
