The AVID Ascend GT is Yokohama's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of sedans, coupes, crossovers and minivans who want a refined ride and noise comfort combined with long life and confident all-season traction. The AVID Ascend GT is designed to deliver grip in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even light snow.
Yokohama BluEarth branding is used to identify an ecologically friendly series of tires that are designed to deliver environmentally, human and socially friendly solutions for drivers and their vehicles. AVID Ascend GT tires branded with the BluEarth symbol are identified on their Sizes and Specs pages.
The asymmetric pattern of the AVID Ascend GT helps optimize grip in all weather conditions, and the tread profile is specifically engineered to create a stable contact patch for improved traction and wear. The tread pitch variation and Outside Adaptive Shoulder Blocks are designed with a focus on noise attenuation for a quiet driving experience. Four deep, circumferential grooves utilize asymmetric widths to aid standing water evacuation through the footprint, while the inside shoulder features open notches to allow water to pass through. Yokohama's TriBLEND Compound Technology all-season compound utilizes a low-Tg polymer and high silica content for grip in inclement weather, and the Triple 3-D Sipes and notched tread blocks create the biting edges needed for light snow traction.
Internally, a polyester casing aids ride comfort and supports two wide, steel belts. A full nylon cover works with the square profile shape to help resist deflection under cornering loads for more controlled, predictable handling in dry and wet conditions while also providing high-speed capability.

I've put a little over 1200 miles on them. I'm in the metro Detroit area and drive I-94 daily. You can put tires to the test on that thing. These have performed great. First day on them we had very steady rainfall. Never an issue going through standing water, and gripped some of the curves on 94 during rain with ease. Never felt like I was slipping. On dry pavement I couldn't be happier. For the price these are well worth it.

...The wet traction has been great. No, I don't race or drive aggressive with a 29 year old truck, but I have never lost traction in wet conditions, not even accelerating relatively fast from a stop light with an empty bed (no weight)...
Purchased a rim and tire package to replace my original 14 inch rims on my 96 Ford ranger. Trucks drives like a different vehicle. I live in CA with horrible maintained highways and the truck feels much more stable at highway speeds. Hitting pot holes used to cause the truck to bounce and feel like I was out of control, that's no longer the case with the much larger rims and these lower profile tires. The truck is still very comfortable to drive in with and highway. I absolutely love these tires. Wet traction has been great. No, I don't race or drive aggressive with a 29 year old truck, but I have never lost traction in wet conditions, not even accelerating relatively fast from a stop light with an empty bed (no weight). To be honest, I've never heard of this tire till I searched for a specific tire size for my new rims. I'm absolutely love these tires. Tread wear is great, I don't see any signs of wear yet.

...They grip surprisingly well on dry and wet roads and are pretty quiet on highway too...
Overall, very happy with these tires. They grip surprisingly well on dry and wet roads and are pretty quiet on highway too. Only complaint is, on slush covered roads, in that they seem to loose traction more easily than other all season tires I've had and confidence in control grip diminishes quickly in those conditions. Slush covered roads are perhaps the most dangerous, and driving speeds should be drastically reduced and/or winter tires should be installed- if slushy conditions are encountered frequently in your winter driving. Crisp- cold snow, traction is fair to good. Generally, I would recommend these tires.

Most customers rate the Laufenn G FIT AS's winter traction highly, with snow and deep snow scores between 8-10. While ice traction shows some variability, many report reliable all-season performance in typical winter conditions.

...I went out and played in the rain a little on some very twisty remote rural roads & my 1st impression in wet weather is a nice secure feeling (i was able to sample two different types of asphalt in wet & so far so good)...
update have been super pleased with all aspects of this lauffen g fit set, the comfort and low noise is outstanding! steering feel is very very nice too dry grip & stopping Terrific & an enormous rainstorm came through Florida today so i went out and played in the rain a little on some very twisty remote rural roads & my 1st impression in wet weather is a nice secure feeling (i was able to sample two different types of asphalt in wet & so far so good) --- I'm totally not trying to go against the results tire rack attained with this tire in their tire testing "wet results" but can only give you my real world roads real world driving & raining/wet/damp/drying conditions in my nissan which is a 100% analog car except for abs brakes {zero other driving aids like limited slip diff, stability control, traction control, electric brake force distribution etc on my maxima} so perhaps my secure feeling in wet is down to fact my 55series V rated Laufenn's on my freshly aligned front wheel drive vehicle produce a different "balance/feel" in the wet vs. tire rack's testing experience in their rear wheel drive, close to 50/50 weight distribution, bmw sedan
once i get a little more time with them I'll update again--- so far my laufenns have me really happy and really impressed

The ride is great for a non performance tire. And while the road noise, and lesser gas mileage is something to consider, 11" of snow and ice changed my mind really quickly. They are a comfortable ride, and since I am not on long road trips, I love these tires. Even though I only have a front wheel drive car, I have had zero issues wondering if I was going to get stuck. In comparison to my eagle gt's, the incline on my driveway presented no challenge to climb, even on ice. Living with lake effect, I will buy again!

...I was stunned to find that they actually drove and handled impressively for a no name tire in this price range. More so, they were very quiet and compliant even at 80mph...
Mostly, I picked this set of tires because they LOOK the part for the car they went on. I wanted something very nondescript without white lettering, whitewall, aggressive tread, etc. There aren't a lot of tires in this size as it is and this one was the closest to a vintage look tire with modern technology. I was stunned to find that they actually drove and handled impressively for a "no name" tire in this price range. More so, they were very quiet and compliant even at 80mph. I would absolutely recommend these tires for anyone on or not on a budget. Enormous bang for the buck.

So far with the very limited mileage I've put on them which included a couple cloverleafs, they feel great. They're stickier than the Michelins I had on there (also economy car tires), track well, and feel great...
So far, so good. I've only got about 10 miles on the tires so far. It's always difficult to buy tires for the Caterham (Lotus Super 7). It's a full-on sports/race car for the street, but tires available in this size are mostly intended for economy cars and small SUVs where the tires are designed for long treadwear and good gas mileage, which generally means that performance will suffer. Unless I order Avons (Not DOT approved) out of England and have them shipped over, I'm stuck trying to find tires that were never intended for this kind of car.
I chose the Lauffen's because they have an HR (130MPH) speed rating, when most tires in this category are either S or T (112 or 118MPH) which to me indicates that performance was at least an afterthought. I also chose the lowest treadwear guarantee to try and get the softest (hopefully stickiest) tread. So far with the very limited mileage I've put on them which included a couple cloverleafs, they feel great. They're stickier than the Michelins I had on there (also economy car tires), track well, and feel great. I can't wait to get them broken in.
Just a note, that if you have anything resembling an exotic car, do not trust that the Tire Rack preferred installers (even the Gold Star rated ones) will help you. CALL them directly, tell them about the car, and get them to assure that they will do it. Even calling directly didn't work for me. They said, "No Problem" when I called, but when the tires arrived, they refused to install them and told me to come pick up my tires.
I would recommend these tires for anyone who has a vintage sports car that enjoys a bit of performance, but doesn't expect them to be race car tires. I can't wait to get them out on a nice twisty back road and see how they do.

...The stearing was super responsive... great around corners and very smooth at 60, 70 and 80mph!!!...
I got my new Laufenn GS and as soon as i drove from the Auto Center i was like Wow!!! I just got a steal. The stearing was super responsive. They looked Awesome Amour all up, great around corners and very smooth at 60, 70 and 80mph!!! The only set back was they did give off a little more road noise then epected but once the music was on it was hardly noticable. Lastly, the tires absorbed bumps extremely well and was very responsive on windind roads. Unfortunately, i have not been able to use the tires in rain or snow as of yet but i will definately put in another review once i try them in those conditions but so far these tires are the Bomb.com!! Also i am curious to see how the treadware will do as well because i can be very hard on tires!!! I guess we'll see!!

...My last few sets of tires from Cooper, Kenda, Kelly, and even Michelin or Sumitomo can't compare to the ride, (lack of) noise, steering response, and overall enjoyment I get from my old truck! It rides like it did NEW, and that's no BS!...
With only 5K miles on these tires, I can say they have breathed new life into my old Ranger (226K miles). My last few sets of tires from Cooper, Kenda, Kelly, and even Michelin or Sumitomo can't compare to the ride, (lack of) noise, steering response, and overall enjoyment I get from my old truck! It rides like it did NEW, and that's no BS! I will definitely look to purchase these tires in the future for more of my vehicles. At this price-point, I'll never again look at cheap garbage tires again. Oh, BTW, these are actually made by and owned by Hankook! I have driven this truck on the Interstate, back-roads, and on the farm, and never had issues on dry, wet, or mud. I can only hope they preform as well in the snow :)

...Treadwear is also great, my 195/55/R15 tires have driven 13,500 miles and still have 6/32" left...
TLDR: Dry traction is good, but DO NOT buy this tire unless you never see rain or snow.
PRO: For this price, dry traction is perfect. Definitely better than buying some no-name brand at Walmart. Treadwear is also great, my 195/55/R15 tires have driven 13,500 miles and still have 6/32" left. However, I am going to replace them soon because... see the CON below.
CON: Do not let the "Consumer Surveys" rating fool you. It shows ratings above 7+, but when you look at the 'Tire Rack Test,' check out the 'Wet Test Track' section, and you'll see how horrible these tires are (I wish I knew this before purchasing). I can confirm that wet traction is horrible. When the tire was new, it already didn’t have much grip, and sometimes it would hydroplane. Now that it’s worn down to 6/32", I lost control on ice last winter and slid into a curb at around 20 mph in a straight line! It resulted in expensive repairs: a new tie rod, control arm, and hub. Even now, with 6/32" remaining, when driving on the highway in light wet conditions at around 70 mph, I can feel the car wanting to hydroplane. Exiting a U-turn on the highway is a difficult task, I have to slow down to about 25 mph to be safe. No joke. I remember when I had Potenza Sport tires, driving in the rain was like nothing, no need to slow down at all. I regret buying such a cheap tire, accident is going to happen.
