Cooper's origins trace back to 1914, when it began producing tire patches, tire cement, and tire repair kits under the name M and M Manufacturing Company in Akron, Ohio. In 1915, the company acquired the Giant Tire & Rubber Company, and in 1917, it relocated to Findlay, Ohio, where Cooper Tire & Rubber Company remains headquartered today. Since 1946, the company has produced tires under the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company name and currently employs over 10,000 people worldwide.
As an American company with a global presence, Cooper operates in numerous countries and distributes tires across the globe, primarily focusing on replacement tires for passenger cars and light vehicles in North America. You may recognize Cooper Tires from their “My Car Wears Coopers” commercials, launched in 2024, which showcase their mission to create tires that match the diverse needs of many different drivers. In addition to its flagship Cooper line, the company owns Avon Tyres Limited, based in Melksham, England, and Mickey Thompson Tires. As of 2021, Cooper Tires is owned by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
